Zuhour (زَهْر , flowers in Arabic) is the debut, free improvised guitar duo album of American, Brooklyn-based Ayman Fanous and Joe Morris, both playing electric and nylon-string guitars.
Fanous’ guitar playing is informed by his Egyptian ancestry, his bouzouki playing, and absorbs elements from the musical traditions of the Arab world, Turkey, India, North Africa, Persia, and the Balkans. His recent duo albums were with violinist Jason Kao Hwang (Zilzal – زلزال, an earthquake in Arabic, Innova, 2013) and cellist Frances-Marie Uitti (Negoum – نجوم, stars in Arabic, Mode, 2019).
The Connecticut-based, prolific Morris (who is also a gifted double bass player and drummer) is one of the iconic free music guitarists,
