3000 is a free jazz quintet featuring Belgian trumpeter Bart Maris (who also did the cover artwork), German alto sax player-flutist Jan Klare, American trombonist Steve Swell, Dutch double bass player Wilbert de Joode, and American, Amsterdam-based drummer Michael Vatcher.
The quintet is an evolution of the 1000 quartet – Klare, Maris, De Joode, and Vatcher – that focused at first at free interpretations of compoositions from the classical world by composers like Wagner, Bach or Monteverdi, combined with some originals by Klare, and released five albums between 2007 and 2002, and another one with American guitarist-banjoist Eugene Chadbourne, and of 2000 – Klare, De Joode, Vatcher, Swell, and German cellist Elisabeth Coudoux, that released one album.
