Karin Hellqvist is a Swedish contemporary violinist, researcher, and educator who plays in some of the Scandinavian forefront ensembles like Cikada, Oslo Sinfonietta, neon, and KammarensembleN. Palette is Hellkvist’s second solo violin album, following flock (LAWO, 2019), and its five works employ different fascinating approaches for exploring the violin’s rich sonic palette, corresponding with her PhD thesis, Transforming with the Artistic Palette, at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo (2018-2024). It was recorded at Oslo’s Sofienberg church in November 2023.
The album begins with the three-part “One and the Other (Speculative Polskas for Karin)” (2021-22), which informs about Hellkvist’s inquisitive and insightful sonic vision. It was composed with
