How the Dust Falls is the second duo album of Japanese-born, Dublin-based pianist Izumi Kimura and American, Luzern-based master drummer-percussionist-vocalist Gerry Hemingway, following Kairos (Fundacja Słuchaj!, 2023). This duo began to work together in a series of residencies, rehearsals, and performances in Ireland in 2016, and further evolved in 2018 as a trio with master double bass Barry Guy and with the release of Illuminated Silence (Fundacja Słuchaj!, 2019. This trio also released Six Hands Open As One, Fundacja Słuchaj!, 2024).
Kimura and Hemingway say that How the Dust Falls “explores a further refinement of their shared interest in exploring formal structure with completely improvised material.” The album was recorded in August and September
