Alessandro Bosetti is an Italian, Marseille-based composer and sound artist who focuses on the musicality of spoken language and voice, understood as an autonomous sound entity, as well as on the relationship between sound and memory. Since 2019, Bosetti has been working on a radical rewriting, destruction, or reconstruction of German composer and pianist Robert Schumann’s iconic Carnival (1834-35), one of the canonical works of the Romantic solo piano repertoire. Bosetti’s Carnaval 2 (after Robert Schumann) for masked pianist was written for, and is dedicated to Dutch virtuoso contemporary pianist Reinier van Houdt. The album was recorded at La Soufflerie in Rezé, France, in January 2022.

Schumann’s Carnaval consists of 21 episodes, almost all dedicated to a particular character or a particular mask. There are Commedia dell’arte characters such as Harlequin, Colombine, and Pantalon,
