Marina Mello is a Brazilian, Zürich-based, classically trained experimental harpist who believes that her mission is to disrupt many stereotypes and expectations associated with her instrument. She searches and researches new sonic textures through paradoxes between emptiness and noisy textures, and harmonic and random-spontaneous vertical sounds. She focuses on non-traditional ways of playing, with extended technique (including with bows), detuning the harp’s strings, preparing the acoustic and electric harp with objects, with guitar effect pedals, and using close-mic recording to capture the subtlest sounds and the shifts that lie between them. Mello also leads a trio with Berlin-based Brazilian double bass player Vinicius Cajado and drummer Mauricio Takara.
