Lingyuan Yang is a young guitarist-composer (and photographer) with a great interest in different tuning systems. He uses quarter-tones in his guitar playing and microtonality in his compositions, as well as in electroacoustic music. He was born in China but educated in the United States and mentored at The New School by Eric Wubbels, Ingrid Laubrock, Anna Webber, Matt Mitchell, and Peter Evans. He recently relocated to the Netherlands.
Cursed Month (败月) is Lingyuan Yang’s debut album. The album’s title refers to Chinese astrology, where each of the twelve animal signs has a corresponding inauspicious month.
