Hypomaniac documents the first-ever (and so far the only one) free improvised performance of a new trio featuring Argentinian, Berlin-based prolific tenor sax player (and visual artist) Camila Nebbia, Portuguese, Rotterdam-based equally prolific double bass player Gonçalo Almeida, with French. Paris-based drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq at the Defkaz Take 2 Festival in Thessaloníki in March 2025.
Nebbia, Almeida, and Darrifourcq needed not more than a few seconds to establish an organic, fiery, and propulsive sonic storm on the first 20-minute, untitled improvisation, with no sign of slowing down. Nebbia varied the commotion with poetic, psychedelic multiphonics, Almedia pushed the sonic palette of his double bass into noisy, resonant-buzzing terrains, while Darrifourcq grounded the collective chaos into free pulses.
