The Unseen Pact documents the first recorded free improvising encounter between Portuguese, Berlin-based drummer-percussionist (and sound artist and educator) Sofia Borges and Argentine, Amsterdam-based tenor and sopranino sax player Ada Rave. The album was recorded at Hal5 Studio in Amsterdam in July 2024. Borges and Rave previously performed in a quartet with fellow Argentinian tenor sax player Camila Nebbia and guitarist Andy Moor (of The Ex).
The seven pieces highlight the most personal, iconoclastic approaches of Borges and Rave. Borges uses a distinguished sound palette that constantly evolves. It includes a selection of percussion instruments complemented by a wide variety of everyday objects, tools, hardware, music boxes, and toys, with which she bends time and texture and sketches unexpected sonic landscapes.
