John Butcher’s Dragon 10 is an ad-hoc tentet, conducted by British master tenor and soprano sax player at the Call and Response 8, Spontaneous Music Festival at the Dragon Social Club in Poznań in October 2024. This performance, held three weeks before Butcher’s 70th birthday, served as the festival’s finale. Butcher asked to call this ensemble the Dragon 10, and he mixed and mastered the recording.
The Dragon 10 features Butcher on tenor and soprano saxes, Portuguese trumpeter Luís Vicente, Italian trombonist Salvoandrea Lucifora, Polish pianist Anna Jędrzejewska, Danish double bass player Adam Pultz Melbye, Polish double bass player Ksawery Wójciński and violinist Ostap Mańko, and long-time collaborators – British electric mandolin player Phil Durrant and drummer Mark Wastell (Butcher, Durrant, and Watsell released
