Laura Cetilia is a Mexican-American, Rhode Island-based cellist, composer, and educator who feels at home with in-betweenness, working within the acoustic, electronic, traditional, and experimental sound practices. She was commissioned and premiered works by composers such as Alvin Lucier, Christian Wolff, Michael Pisaro, Jürg Frey, Eva-Maria Houben, and Magnus Granberg. Cetilia began composing only when she was in her forties and after developing a distinct voice as a performer and improviser.
gorgeous nothings is Cetilia’s debut album as a composer, borrowing its title from Emily Dickinson’s poetry book by the same name, and featuring three of her compositions. The album’s complementary artwork was made by Cetilia’s partner, Mark Cetilia, who built a macro lens to capture amazing detail of small objects in photographs. This
