Adia Vanheerentals is a young Belgian soprano sax player who leads the free-improvising trio Bodem, and recently joined Fire! Orchestra’s European WORDS tour. Taking Place is her first full-length solo album, following the EP Here Are 5 Reasons To Meditate (Ultra Eczema), and it was recorded and mixed by Bodem’s guitarist Willem Malfliet.

Taking Place is “secretly” a duo album, not with another musician, but with and within distinct urban locations. It offers eight free improvised dialogues with the sounds of the city – the huge reverb of directing the sax sound into an empty silo, the clucking of a chicken coop, chattering birds, or passing cars. Vanheerentals does not consider these urban sounds a disturbance or nuisance but an organic element of her sonic environment
