GRÜM is an experimental improvising quartet featuring German, Basel-based vocal artist Lara Süß, who also plays a sampler, Swiss Thomas Rohrer, who plays the rabeca (a string instrument related to the violin, originating from Portugal), soprano sax and objects, Polish Jacek Chmiel on bowls, zither, field recordings, and electronics, and Swiss Christian Moser on cümbüş, oud and objects. Meschin is GRÜM’s second album, following zeroes on the loose (Antenna Non Grata, 2022). It was recorded by Chmiel and Rohrer during a two-week artist residency around Poschiavo (where Rohrer was born), Switzerland, in May 2023. Moser did the mixing and mastering, and Chmiel took the cover photo.
