American, Downtown New York pianist, composer, conceptualist, improviser, and educator Anthony Coleman has played with downtown avant-garde outfits, free jazz, klezmer music (but with a Sephardic Tinge, as his trio was titled), and composed contemporary music. His musical DNA transforms the idiosyncratic aesthetics of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, György Ligeti, Cecil Taylor, Anton Webern, Jelly Roll Morton, and György Kurtag into a highly personal language.
However, throughout his more than forty-year career, which spanned over one hundred albums, he recorded only one solo piano album, Catenary Oath (NoBusiness, 2019), despite performing many times as a solo pianist.
