Felix Nussbaumer is a young Italian, Lucerne-based experimental reed and brass player who uses DIY home-built instruments (like Care, “a self-built, almost-falling-apart instrument, made from a toy trumpet-melodica, garden hoses, 2 foot pumps, electrical conduits, hot glue, homemade circuitry, fishing line, an old speaker, altoids, cell phone mics, and handmade jack cables”), microphones, circuit boards, and speakers to expand his sonic palette. His Solo Horn, his debut solo album (and the eleventh album in a series of experimental solo horn albums by the Scottish Sound Holes label) was recorded live (with an ancient analog Yamaha mixer) at the Atelier of a family friend, Italian sculptor and photographer Ulrich Egger, in Lana, South Tyrol – Nussbaumer’s hometown, in June 2025.
