Togetherness is the second duo album of the late American double bass player Barre Phillips (who passed away in December 2024), the grandmaster of the free improvised double bass, and Hungarian experimental synth and electronics player György Kurtág Jr., the son of Hungary’s great contemporary composer, but, actually, it is their first collaborative recording.
Phillips and Kurtág Jr. have worked together for a decade to promote free improvisation as an independent art and communication form, under the auspices of the experimental workshop called Centre Européen Pour l’Improvisation (CEPI) that was founded by Phillips and Italian double bass player Enrico Fagnoni and currently led by Kurtág Jr.
