Matilde Meireles is a Portuguese, Belfast-based sound artist and researcher who uses field recordings to compose site-oriented projects. Her work embraces the inherent blurriness of field recording, acknowledging its varied interpretations and (mis)understandings. Meireles also takes a multi-sensory, durational, and multi-perspective approach to site, exploring the potential of listening across different spectrums and scales to attune to diverse ecosystems and articulate multiple experiences of the world.
Four Tales is rooted in Pauline Oliveros’ philosophy of deep listening as an act of care and employs sound and extended forms of listening to form a sensibility of community between people and their surrounding architecture and ecosystems.
