The Czech experimental, free improvising trio Petr Válek (a painter, sculptor, and instrument builder), Jára Tarnovski, and Ondřej Merta (a keyboard player, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music journalist, who plays with Tarnovski in the local, experimental electronics band Gurun Gurun) make music with whatever junk objects are loosely strewn silently around the venue’s backrooms, corners, and edges. On its debut album, Metal (Flaming Lips, 2023), the trio played on Válek’s kinetic sculptures and homemade synthesizers, as well as ball bearings, kitchen utensils, and suitcases.
Punctum was created at the Punctum art centre in Prague’s Žižkov district. Válek (who also did the cover artwork), Merta, and Tarnovski played on Válek’s electroacoustic machines, alongside stones, branches, pots, pans, dud domestic appliances, and even old bicycles found
