The Norwegian POING trio features idiosyncratic masters of contemporary music and free improvisation – accordionist Frode Haltli, a prodigy on the accordion since age seven, known for his ECM albums, and his Avant-Folk band; double bass player Håkon Thelin, one of the world’s leading performers of contemporary music, who has researched and invented several extended techniques on the double bass, an associate professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo where he teaches double bass and contemporary music, and the founder of Peninsula Audio Records, releasing his innovative compositions; and alto sax player Rolf-Erik Nystrøm, a contemporary composer who also composes for stage, documentaries, and soundtracks.
