WaSaBi Trio, the American free improvising trio and its self-titled debut, features pianist Walter Thompson (who is also a woodwind player and percussionist), known as the creator of Soundpainting, the multidisciplinary live composing sign language, and a musician who has developed an idiosyncratic improvisational language rooted in avant-garde jazz and contemporary classical music; Thompson’s cousin, guitarist and electric mandola player Sam Day Harmet, who has played with his mentor unclue in countless contexts since he was an infant – from intimate living-room sessions to concert halls worldwide; and drummer and percussionist Billy Martin, of Medeski Martin & Wood fame, who brings to this trio his hand-made
