Danya Pilchen is a Ukrainian, The Hague-based experimental composer, pianist, and sound artist associated with the Wandelweiser reductionist school of composers. He is interested in the human experience of time and music’s ability to illuminate it. His work explores the concept of ‘collective experience’ of time, challenging the individuality of time perception and creating shared, immersive moments. His work necessitates increased attention to the relationships between musicians and audiences, and Pilchen employs various compositional strategies and listening techniques that engage the materiality of sound.
Pilchen’s longest collaboration to date is with The Hague-based experimental Kali Ensemble – Nirantar Yakthumba on organ and coding, Joel Gester Suárez on organ, and Gregor Connelly on live electronics, for whom he wrote six pieces over the last four years. The
