You can always trust the ever-busy Chicagoan sax hero Dave Rempis to provide exhilarating and inspiring new music a few times every year, with new and old bands. The Outskirts is no different. It is a trio of three prolific musicians: Rempis on alto and tenor saxes, with former Chicagoans, Norwegian, Trondheim-based double bass player Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, and Amsterdam-based drummer Frank Rosaly. The trio was formed almost twenty years ago when Håker Flaten and Rosaly still resided in Chicago, and made a live recording in April 2009, You Deserve to Dance (Aerophonic, 2020).
Håker Flaten and Rosaly continued playing in The Rempis Percussion Quartet alongside second drummer Tim Daisy, but geographic distances made it impractical to maintain two similar bands. Until late 2023, when Rempis thought The Outskirts was a band worth incarnating. The
