Sirenjaw documents the first meeting of three prolific improvisers who, while previously connected through various collaborations, had not performed together as a trio before recording this album. Brazilian, Berlin-based double bass player Vinicius Cajado is known for his collaborations with double bass master Joëlle Léandre and tenor sax player Camila Nebbia; British, Berlin-based pianist (and organist) Kit Downes began his career in jazz ensembles, but recently he has focused on free-improvised outfits and composing contemporary music. He has collaborated with Cajado in different, free improvised ensembles in Berlin; Austrian, Vienna-based experimental drummer-percussinist Lukas Koenig often amplifies and expands his drum set or prepared cymbals with electronics and effects.
