Orizzontale (Horizontal) is the first release by Nea Editions, an Italian, Matera-based, multidisciplinary, electroacoustic collective which operates the Nea Ensemble, dedicated to experimentation in sound art, vintage electronics, dub, noise, free jazz, echoes of Mediterranean traditions, experimental theater, and visual art.
The Nea Ensemble manifesto believes in the horizontal – intended as the absence of hierarchies and authoritarian positions – sharing of knowledge and in the power of the local landscape as a source of artistic and cultural inspiration. It aims at creating new “tradition yet to begin”, one that moves between past and future, springs from the roots of local culture, and opens itself to new forms of experimentation and cross-pollination.
