Heavy Handed brings together four idiosyncratic improvisers from both Americas – American, Brooklyn-based violist (and multimedia artist) Joanna Mattrey, Argentine, Berlin-based tenor sax player (and visual artist) Camila Nebbia, Peruvian, Mexico City-based flutist (credited also with effects, also a sound artist, who recorded before with Mattrey) Camilo Ángeles, and fellow Argentine, Bern-based cellist Violeta García (who is also credited with effects, who recorded before with Ángeles, and runs with him the TVL rec label). This quartet began to perform in 2022, and its debut album was recorded live at Jazzwerkstatt Bern in March 2024.
