Luftgefaltet (folded air) documents the first recorded collaboration of German, Basel-based experimental vocal artist and electronics player (and actress) Lara Süß, who is interested in the influence of physical body movements on sound, and describes her art as the result “of irrepressible curiosity and ongoing questioning”, and Swiss, Zürich-based master double bass improviser and educator Daniel Studer. The album was recorded at Sonarrec in Baar, Switzerland, in December 2024.
This collaboration began with a series of long and slow walks through the city of Zürich, often purposeful walks, and at other times aimless ones. Studer showed Süß pieces of his hometown, and she asked endless questions and marvelled at the new sights. They say
