The trio of pianist Achim Kaufmann, clarinetist/saxophonist Frank Gratkowski, and double bassist Wilbert de Joode has been together for over twenty years now. First formed in Amsterdam in 2002, the group has toured extensively in Europe and North America, and has released five albums. These are now joined by Canberra, its sixth. The album was recorded in Canberra, Australia at the SoundOut festival, where the group appeared in February 2020. They had just come to the end of an Australian tour. Four pieces appear on the album; as with all of the group’s music, they were fully improvised.
