The British free improvising trio, featuring legendary vocal artist Phil Minton, percussionist and electronics player Luigi Marino, and trumpeter Matt Davis, formed shortly after Minton and Marino relocated to Bristol, where Matt resides.
Two Quartets documents two live sets of the trio with an additional guest. The first one, “SHIFT”, was recorded live at the SHIFT art center in Cardiff, Wales, in June 2023. The trio is joined by German clarinetist Michael Thieke (of The International Nothing and Magda Mayas’ Filamental), who was touring the United Kingdom with Marino. Thieke and Marino recorded before a duo album (Native Languages of Nowhere, Emergent Idioms, 2021), and on a day of the tour, Thieke joined the
