Norwegian, Stavanger-based reed Frode Gjerstad (b.1948) is Norway’s pioneer free improviser, who recorded with such innovative free improvisers as John Stevens, Derek Bailey, Peter Brötzmann, William Parker, Borah Bergman, Matthew Shipp, and Paal Nilssen-Love. German, Berlin-based pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach (b. 1938) is another pioneer, a master free improviser, the founder of the legendary Globe Unity Orchestra, and the long-standing trio with Evan Parker and Paul Lovens, and a great interpreter of Thelonious Monk compositions.

Surprisingly, Seven Tracks, is the first recording of Gjerstad and von Schlippenbach.
