Argentine, Amsterdam-based composer and pianist Claudio F Baroni’s music is grounded in conceptual ideas that explore gradual compositional processes, memory, and time manipulation. He often focuses on the spoken voice—the voice that simply narrates—and was inspired by the pioneering work of the American composer Robert Ashley.

Re-Genetic features Baroni’s two evocative compositions in which he sets recorded spoken texts against acoustic and electronic pitched sounds. These compositions emerge entirely from digitally aided speech analysis, which identifies occurrences of Western scale pitches within the natural intonations of speech. Baroni does not interpret, comment, explain, reinforce, conceptualise, or illustrate the meaning they narrate. The semantic integrity of these radical texts remains untouched by sound. By focusing on the musicality of the spoken texts, Baroni loosens the texts
