Maya Felixbrodt is an Israeli-born, Amsterdam-based experimental violist, composer, improviser, sound artist, actor, and choreographer who focuses on the connection between sound and movement (based on The Laban Bartenieff Movement System), and is a certified movement analyst and educator. She is a co-founder of the Amsterdam-based Moving Strings ensemble. She plays in the free improvising Zyft trio (with Dutch guitarist Henk Zwerver and Israeli bass-clarinettist Ziv Taubenfeld).
Travelling Viola is Felixbrodt’s ongoing project, which began in 2018. I quote the album notes: “…exploring the relationship between the body, sound, movement, and nature through site-specific works that combine music, video, and performance. Each chapter in the project focuses on a different physical phenomenon – disintegration, buoyancy, vibration, and sinking – offering a perspective on the encounter between human and space, sound and time, movement and matter…”
