Marteau Rouge (Red Hammer in French) is the French experimental, electroacoustic free-improv unit, founded in 1992 by vintage analogue modular EMS Synthi AKS explorer and vocalist Jean-Marc Foussat (who is also an in-demand sound engineer and the head of Fou Records), Japanese-born drummer Makoto Sato, and guitarist and vocalist Jean-François Pauvros. This trio has performed with guest musicians like Daunik Lazro, Itaru Oki, Keiji Haino, Evan Parker, Joe McPhee, and Médéric Collignon, dancers Maki Watanabe, Yuko Kametani, and Gyohei Zaitsu, and even shared the stage with Sonic Youth.

The self-titled album was recorded after a nine-year hiatus. The trio made a comeback for a one-off concert in Montreuil in February 2026, with master tenor sax
