Kai Fagaschinski is a German, Berlin-based, self-taught clarinetist and composer who focuses on the clarinet’s subtle musicality of sound and noise phenomena. He has developed a personal and unorthodox voice on his instrument, characterized by a distinctive multiphonic language. He is best known for his collaborative work in experimental ensembles such as The International Nothing clarinet duo, The Magic I.D. quartet, the Splitter Orchester, and The Dogmatics duo.
The Evil of Banality is a follow-up to Fagaschinski’s debut album as a sole composer, the double vinyl Aerodynamics (Ni Vu Ni Connu, 2025), and a direct reaction to his first composition for the octet, “Welcome to the 20th Century”, performed by The Paranormal Clarinet Society,
