Sardinian clarinetist, composer, and enthusiastic researcher of Sardinian music, history, and archaeology Zoe Pia says that she found her first clarinet under the Christmas Tree. Swedish, Nickelsdorf-based Mats Gustafsson is a generation older and comes from a different musical universe, of free jazz that meets free improvisation and avant-rock, and noise. Pia took part in Gustafsson’s Fire! Orchestra performances in Italy in 2021, and with Fire! Defeat tour in 2022, and both musicians wanted to further deepen their collaborative sonic research in duo form. Rite, recorded at Case del Jazz in Rome in May 2023, proves that Pia and Gustafsson have much more in common.
