Alec Goldfarb is an American, Brooklyn-based guitarist-composer whose music blends elements of modern jazz [he took part in recording Anthony Braxton’s Composition No. 446 (Combination Music) with the Darmstadt Creative Orchestra], experimental, and Hindustani classical music. Shadows is his fifth album. It was recorded between Southeast Asia and New York, and draws inspiration from experiences gathered over winters and monsoon seasons spent in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam between 2022 and 2023. The album’s title references the various traditions of shadow puppetry in this region, as “shadows let stories unfold in partial light-melodies as silhouettes, harmonies as lanterns, casting long echoes from stage to ear”.
Shadows unfolds like an exotic journey that crisscrosses
