Vítor Rua is a Portuguese multi-instrumentalist, guitarist, and ethnomusicologist based in Lisbon. and a contemporary music composer, considered one of the key figures of Portuguese creative music. Throughout his versatile career, he covered a multitude of idioms and styles – from rock, minimalism, folk, punk, thrash metal, noise, avant-garde electronic, and country music to free improvisation. He has played and recorded with Louis Sclavis, Chris Cutler, Elliott Sharp, Carlos Zíngaro, Evan Parker, Paul Lytton, Eddie Prévost, Sunny Murray, and Ikue Mori.

Since 1987, Rua has focused more on contemporary composition, writing for soloists, chamber groups, and orchestras, including seven operas. The Portuguese label Profound Whatever released Rua and guitarist Nuno Rebelo’s electronic composition Dois Sóis
