Norwegian double bass player Håkon Thelin is a generation-defining musician, improviser, composer, scholar, and educator, known as an interpreter of contemporary music, where the notes resemble mathematical equations with both eight and nine unknowns, the musically omnivorous three-headed troll POING (whose recent program interprets songs of the Norwegian eighties synth-pop band A-Ha), and his work with ensembles like Oslo Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern, and Musikfabrik. He is an associate professor of contemporary music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.
