For the Skylarks is the second duo album of the German, Berlin-based experimental clarinetist Michael Thieke (of The International Nothing, The Pitch, and The Magic I.D.), and Italian, Bristol-based experimental percussionist and DIY circuits explorer Luigi Marino, following Native Languages of Nowheres (released by Marino’s label, Emergent Idioms, 2022).
This duo investigates the most hidden details of sound: subtle metal resonances, breath before it turns into a note inside a clarinet, electronic sounds generated by a battery and projected by the vibrations of the instruments themselves. These barely audible sounds emerge from the background to take a predominant role, depicting abstract suspended landscapes, or turning into simple melodies and rhythms.
