Laura Altman is an Australian, Sydney-based experimental clarinettist whose solo improvisation practice involves an exploratory approach to the clarinet sonic palette, underpinned by curiosity about resonance and feedback. She plays in the Great Waitress trio (with pianist Magda Mayas and accordionist Monika Brooks), and in the local, large-scale electro-acoustic improvising ensemble The Splinter Orchestra.
Altman’s solo album, Holy Trinity, was recorded on a warm, hazy afternoon at the Holy Trinity Church in York, the oldest inland town in Western Australia, on Ballardong Noongar Country during a solo residency period in November 2023. Over the last couple of years, these long-form improvisations have been carefully crafted into six pieces featuring Altman playing the clarinet alongside speakers,
