1984 is the highly anticipated debut album of a new trio formed by French tenor sax player Sakina Abdou, British turntables wizard Mariam Rezaei, and Belgian guitarist and composer Kobe Van Cauwenberghe, all born in 1984. This trio suggests the future of free jazz, free improvisation, and experimental music, in a similar manner to the way of Økse (with turntablist and sound designer Val Jeanty), The Sleep of Reason Makes Monsters (with Rezaei), or Trapeze (with Abdou and turntablist Joke Lanz), but with a more contemplative spirit and an obvious Orwellian dystopian twist.
