Italian cellist Francesco Guerri and Nicola Guazzaloca first met in the late 1990s in Bologna’s vibrant underground scene. Keep Your Hands Free is their second duo album, following Несmор Махно (the title refers to the Ukrainian revolutionary anarcho-communist, 2010), but they continued to perform together, and Guazzaloca featured Guerri on albums by his Tell No Lies quintet, including the recent one, Mantica.
Guazzaloca was a member of the Fete Foreign ensemble led by late double bass master Barre Phillips and has collaborated with various groups under cellist Tristan Honsinger, both musicians significantly influenced his improvisational approach. Guerri also played with
