Juli Deák is a young Polish-Hungarian flutist and sax player who bridges classical, contemporary, folk music, and modern jazz, and explores the physical and expressive limits of the flute with circular breathing, breath pressure, airflow, resonance, and the subtle mechanics of keys and metal. Her research has culminated in her current solo project, The Breathing Project, which led to the recording of her debut solo album, Brisk, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Budapest in August 2025 and January 2026, in single-take performances, with no overdubbing.
Deák began working on this album in 2021, wishing to challenge the refined, often seemingly flawless sound of classical music, as well as her commanding technique,
