Lucerne documents a live, free improvised meeting of Swiss, Lucerne-based pioneer free improviser and master soprano sax player Urs Leimgruber with his long-time Swiss comrades, double bass (and devics) player Bobby Burri (with whom he played since the mid-1970s when they co-founded the influentiall OM quartet), drummer-percussionist Fritz Hauser (with whom he has collaborated in different formats since the early 1990s), and guitarist (and devices player) Christy Doran (another co-founder of OM, with whom he also kept collaborating in different formats since the mid-1970), and young accordionist Tizia Zimmermann (in her first recording with Leimgruber).

The album was recorded at Marianischer Saal in Lucerne in September 2025, six months after Leimgruber underwent a lung transplant, four years after he was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The successful
