May Spring Last a Lifetime is a 53-minute, live, free improvised piece that documents the first duo recording of British tenor sax players from different generations – young Tom Challenger and legendary Evan Parker – following years of informal practice sessions, and two live performances.
Challenger is a London-based sax player, composer, bandleader, researcher, educator, and the head of his own Sche-ima Recordings, known for his work in the British jazz and improvised music scenes. Parker is one of the pioneers of the British school of free improvisation. The album was recorded at Arco Barco studio in Ramsgate. The album’s booklet includes a long, insightful conversation between Challenger and Parker.
