Barbara Ellison is an Irish experimental audio-visual artist and composer whose work explores ghostly presence and substance across a wide range of sonic and visual realms. Through her work and research with the mystifying and evanescent musical territory of ‘sonic phantoms’, she explores states of auditory and visual ambiguity, working with materials that are either naturally ambiguous or have been ‘composed’ or created to attain this quality. Ellison holds a PhD in composition from the University of Huddersfield, and her book Sonic Phantoms (Bloomsbury Press, co-authored with Thomas BW Bailey, 2020) was published to critical acclaim.
