Karoline Leblanc is a Canadian pianist and improviser based in Sintra in Portugal. As a child, she studied to play the violin, harpsichord, organ, and Ondes Martenot, and early in her career she focused on playing contemporary classical music. Her meetings with improvisers and free jazz musicians led to a continuous search for new expressions and open form, and today she favors the “unconstrained piano” as her main instrument, alongside various electronic instruments. Paulo J Ferreira Lopes is a Portuguese percussionist, improviser, and sound artist who relocated to Montréal and has been collaborating with Leblanc since 1998, in Québec and in Portugal.
