The music of American, Berlin-based pianist, improviser, and composer Quentin Tolimieri is extremely minimalist and reductive, often devoid of linguistic syntactical structures such as harmony, melody, counterpoint, or rhythmic gesture, closer in spirit to pure sound-in-and-of-itself or sound sculpture than to traditional music. Tolimieri has studied with British contemporary composer and pianist Michael Finnissy in the United Kingdom, with American reed player Joe Maneri in Boston, and with guitarist and experimental composer Michael Pisaro-Liu, a long-time member of the Wandelweiser collective, in Los Angeles.
